“Survival of the Friendliest”

Our social behaviour evolves, just as our minds do. We read books on prehistoric man – our ancestors – and we cringe at some of their crude and sometimes barbaric behaviour. The clan of the cave bear by Jean M. Auel comes to mind. However, we claim to be developed mentally as a species.

If that is the case, then we should be able to modify certain behaviours that make us intolerant of each other. Violence is one such behaviour.

We can choose to interpret the concept of Survival of the fittest to fit our times. Surely, if we allow our defensive nature to determine how we solve problems we are not thinking about our contribution to the big picture of surviving as a species, but rather as individuals.

Where does that take us?

Does it make us better than lions?

Social animals are super efficient at working as a group.

Maybe it’s time we reevaluate our thinking on a primal level. We are social animals too! However, that concept tends to escape us more than it should.

Let’s learn from our animal relatives by going back to the basics of what makes humanity work.
