The Scope

An Artist-Scientist is an archetype described by Carl Jung as an abstraction of life.

I’m not a fan of boxing myself, because I’d have to have lots of boxes to keep – which spells clutter. However, this box defines my makeup, both literally and metaphorically, so I keep!

I’m watching Emeli Sandé performing “Pluto” at the Royal Albert Hall, and I giggle a little as I think of the beauty of self expression – even when that means being so abstract in thought, you sound like you are reinventing gibberish.

There are moments and places for structure, order, learning, sharing, loving…and they are really all powered by the same planets we love and love to hate. That’s when art meets science – the wholeness of life.

According to an entry on Wikipedia, excerpted from Segal & Jung (1998), an Artist-Scientist symbolises:

  • The Power of the Mind

  • Infinite Creativity

  • Childlike wonder at the world

  • Boundless Curiosity

  • The finding of solutions in unexpected ways

  • Intuitive Improvisation

These are concepts represented by the planets Emeli sings about in “Pluto”.

Here’s to all you lovers of life, expression, sharing and all that they deliver!

The right side is always the right side.

Post written on May 12, 2017

My Entomology lecturer, for 3 of the 6 years I studied the behaviour of living things – Prof Waladde – taught me one thing I never forgot – The Right Side is Always the Right Side.

This of course, had to do with insects. That was his way of making us, his students, remember how to pin beetles (on the right side) for lab specimens. Hpwever, life would be so meaningless; studying would be meaningless if I didn’t learn to incorporate lessons from various subjects of life into “how does this relate to the wider scope of things?”

This beetle teaching resonated with a lot of aspects of my life, as I navigated through adulthood, with the only compass I had – and have learnt to trust on countless occasions – instinct. The right side, instinct, is always the right side.

It’s the feeling we have when we meet someone we are smitten with, who says or does one thing that doesn’t merge smoothly with who we are – no matter how small, or seemingly insignificant – only to learn months or years later that, that little voice we doubted is our basic foundation. It’s what has protected us from starvation and complex illnesses, because we were born knowing how to cry when we were hungry. No one taught us that – except maybe, for the nurse who spanked your bum at birth, because you weren’t in the mood to say ‘hello world!’ yet. We knew how to act bothered when we were not feeling at ease, making mommy run to the doctor, only to save us from something that could have been a potential danger if we hadn’t cried.

The Moon represents our instinct, our primal selves, before we were civilised, before we were taught how to be – at home, at school, on the streets. She answers the question: “how do I know that this is the best decision to make?”

The answer was provided beautifully by Esther Hicks a few years ago in the video of The Secret, when she said…

You can always tell by the way you are feeling if the thing you’re thinking about will please you when you get there.

It’s been at least 2 years since I watched the video, so please pardon me if I got some words wrong. I hope that I relayed the message clearly enough though!

I say, someone else can determine how you feel in a moment. They can affect how you feel. But, only you know how you should feel. Only you know what makes your soul joyful. Only you can determine your infit (your soul’s outfit). Only you know yourself! Even when you don’t believe it. In fact, I believe that whenever we doubt ourselves, we attract more doubt into our lives to prove that we are right.

I almost fell off a cliff at Gough Island in 2000, only because for a moment I had forgotten that I’d taken trips on a rubber duck around the island with only a life jacket as protection. However, even though I couldn’t swim, and still can’t, I signed up for the expedition knowing very well that I’d be floating on a ship over the Atlantic Ocean for 2 weeks before reaching land. That didn’t threaten me one little bit! I didn’t even get sea sick. I trusted that the same Source of the inspiration to go on the expedition would protect me! But in a moment of doubt, I forgot about the God I always trusted to carry me. I allowed doubt! He didn’t want me to go tumbling down a cliff onto ocean boulders and vanish, so he sent Richard – a teammate – to save the day. That moment was the beginning of a not-so-always-easy reminder to diminish self-doubt. I’m still learning to remember!

Fear and self doubt are ego issues! Only and evolved ego can overcome fear and doubt, and that means going back to the Source and allowing what is be!

Whenever we attract star boys,  then freak out when they are being uhm, star boys, we really need to just do a recon, and figure out why we attract people we believe to be bad for us!

Do we question them because of how they make us feel?

Do we question them because of what we’ve been taught (conditioning)?

Do we attract them because we need them to remind us of who we are? The thing that makes us question our beliefs.

Do we attract them for reasons that are so innate that only we can unpack?

That’s my natal Scorpio Moon speaking, which happens to be conjunct the transiting Moon in Scorpio – loads of intense introspection. Thank goodness for the transiting Mercury being direct – he brings out the talkative Gemini Ascendant I am – which is definitely different to his retrograde motion that tends to bring out my Virgo more.

I’m sure you get me ❤♏

    Joy of Living

This is one of those moments where the messages from the universe come from all directions that it’s impossible to ignore them!

So, I go outside at 19:20 to get some air, and as I open the door I’m taken aback by the beauty of the moon shining behind a cloud that my son thought looks like a duck. My 3 year old princess saw a crocodile formation. She loves crocodiles – her imagination draws them all the time. She also happens to be of the BaKwena (crocodile) clan – with a strong Neptune too.

As I walk back into the house I’m thinking that it’s been days since I checked the phase of the Moon up in the sky – it was a waxing gibbous with 89% illumination a few days ago. My! Time does move fast!

Anyways, I quickly generate a transit chart as soon as I learn that this Full Moon is in Scorpio – because it’s transiting conjunct my natal Moon. It turns out that the Moon was at exactly 14°26′ (my natal position) at 11:46. I thought that was really something after the numerous 11s I’ve been seeing today!

Then, onto my trusty source of Angel Numbers – Joanne Walmsley – I go!

    She wrote:

Number 1146 is made up of the attributes of number 1 (appearing twice, amplifying its energies) and the vibrations of number 4 and number 6.  Number 1 brings the attributes of initiative and striving forward, creation, new beginnings and starting new projects, achieving success, fulfilment and happiness. Number 1 also reminds us that we create our own realities with our thoughts, beliefs and actions. Number 1 appearing together resonates with the Master Number 11.  The Master Teacher Number 11 relates to the principles of spiritual awakening and enlightenmentillumination, high energy, creative idealism, inspiration and intuition, self-expression and sensitivity.  The message of the Master Number 11 is that to connect with our higher-selves is to know and live our Divine life purpose and soul mission Number 4 resonates with working steadily towards goals and aspirations, truth and integrity, practicality, system and order, determination and self-initiation, building solid foundations and enthusiasm coupled with determination.  Number 6 relates to love of home and family and domesticity, service to others and selflessness, responsibility and reliability, providing for the self and others, and nurturing.  Number 6 also resonates with finding solutions and overcoming obstacles.

Angel Number 1146 is a message from your angels that your material and physical needs will be met and all that you will need will manifest into your life.  Trust that your positive affirmationsvisualizations and manifesting methods are having positive effects in your life, and your angels urge you to continue with your optimistic outlook and high expectations.

Angel Number 1146 asks you to answer the question, ‘What do you desire right now?’  Visualize it and it will manifest and come to fruition.  Stay positive, as negativity blocks your progress.

    Number 1146 relates to number 3 (1+1+4+6=12, 1+2=3) and Angel Number 3.

Notice how the Master Number 11 relates to the qualities of the Moon?

    According to Numerology (Hans Decoz), I have an 11 – Destiny, Heart’s Desire, 1st & 3rd Pinnacle.

I guess that kind of sums up the source of my joy of living!

    Stay inspired!

    The Double Rainbow

As I walk towards the kitchen door thinking about the many Mayflies that emerged under the warm, sunny drizzle about an hour earlier, I lift my eyes, et voila, a Rainbow! With my usual spontaneous, kiddy scream when the sun shines its rays on my senses, I call everyone to “come see!”. Still in awe at the clarity of the rainbow, a second one appears!

    Double rainbow

Goosebumps led me to Prof Google, who led me to this lovely article written by C.R. Jones in 2012. I had to share!

    Surviving Reality

Driving home the other day we saw a double rainbow. This was even better because we were on our annual vegetable run when the leaves are changing. Just beautiful.

I searched the meaning of the rainbow and found a variety of answers, from biblical and spiritual to a meteorological phenomenon.

Here is one that I found interesting (from

An Irish legend tells that at the end of the rainbow, there is a pot of gold. The seven colors of the rainbow are a perfect analogy to symbolize the seven levels of consciousness that lead humans from ignorance to enlightenment. The reward that awaits at the end of the rainbow is the brute soul transmuted into gold at the very end of the evolutionary journey.

Understanding how a light spectrum works, helps with understanding how the human evolutionary process works. A single ray of white light…

    To the free spirits…

The sudden bursts of genius – real or perceived – are so exciting that they give me strength to deal with Saturn’s restrictions like a reed. And, oh do I have Saturn on my chart – he’s there for sure – 9 aspects to be exact!

Ironically, Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius – Mr Eccentricity. Well, he carries his water (water bearer), instead of living in it – that’s odd. Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius, energises eccentricity, originality and individuality in us.

My Aquarius is on the cusp of the 9th. The 9th house is concerned with higher education, philosophy, religion, culture, long distance travel, law, writing, publishing. In my house of creativity (the 5th), Uranus sits conjunct the Moon – which explains why I relate to this quote. says:

Aquarius is the 3rd Air sign – 4th Fixed sign – Masculine. Is in analogy with Uranus – his ruler, Saturn, and the 11th House.

Aquarius governs the ankles and the legs.

His colour is navy blue or indigo.

    His stone is the sapphire.

    His day is Saturday.

His professions are astrologer, high technologies, scientist, astronaut, psychiatrist, actor, electrician…

Some countries traditionally associated with Aquarius: Russia, Sweden, Poland, Israel, Iran, Abyssinia.

Cities: Moscow, Salzburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Saint Petersburg.

Animals: long distance big birds such as the albatross.

Food: citrus fruits, apples, limes, dried fruits and easily preserved food.

Herbs and aromatics: peppers, hot red peppers, star-fruits, and generally herbs that are spicy or with an unusual flavour.

Flowers and plants: orchids, dancing ladies, polygonatum.

    Trees: fruit trees.

Stones, Metals and Salts: aquamarines, aluminium, sodium chloride and magnesium phosphate.

    Happy Sunday 🌸
